Answer to some common Questions

What types of workers are considered household employees under the new law?

household employees encompass a range of roles, including those working within your home, such as caregivers, drivers, gardeners, and individuals caring for the elderly, sick, frail, or disabled in a private household.

How does VC Employee Assist simplify compliance for employers?

VC Employee Assist provides a private portal that acts as your digital compliance hub. From essential documents like Work Contracts and Payslips to Attendance Registers and Leave Forms, our platform organizes everything required to comply with the law. It streamlines processes, ensures timely submissions, and safeguards you from potential penalties.

What happens if I fail to submit the required statement of earnings?

Failure to submit the required statement of earnings, also known as ROEs, can result in penalties. To avoid this, VC Employee Assist ensures that you’re guided through the submission process, reducing the risk of oversight and helping you maintain compliance.

What additional benefits does VC Employee Assist offer beyond compliance assistance?

Beyond compliance, VC Employee Assist extends support to both employers and employees. We offer Training Manuals and Videos, General Legal Advice, valuable Blogs, News, and Feedback. Moreover, we provide Funeral Cover and access to a Bursary Fund, demonstrating our commitment to holistic workforce well-being and growth.

About Us

Who we are

VC Employee Assist was “born” out of a necessity to comply with amended law pertaining to household employees, which was approved in April 2023 and gazetted on 30 May 2023. It stipulates:

Domestic workers are now considered formal employees under the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act (COIDA) – meaning that anyone employing a domestic worker must comply with the relevant laws. Any employee who works more than 27 hours per month must be registered with the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF), including household employees.
